Our Covenant

This covenant of Christos Church represents our allegiance to our King Jesus Christ and our commitment to each other as His Church. In signing this document, we proclaim the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ as the pivotal event transforming our lives, our communities, our world, and the entire creation. Jesus Christ is the central figure of both our personal histories and the whole of world history. Our primary purpose for life and ministry is to find our satisfaction in our King and to spread this joy to the ends of the earth. In response to our King, we covenant together by affirming, proclaiming, and practicing the following truths revealed in the Holy Scriptures about our relationship with Him and with each other:

We unashamedly affirm that we are followers of King Jesus Christ and citizens of His eternal Kingdom. (Ephesians 2:19-22; Philippians 3:20-21)

We fearfully affirm the justice of God in the condemnation and eternal hell we deserve for our sins. (John 3:18-21, Romans 2:6-11, 5:12-21, Ephesians 2:1-3)

We gratefully affirm the grace of God displayed in Jesus Christ, who was sent by God the Father, was born of a virgin, and lived perfectly according to God’s law, willingly suffered and died on a Roman cross, being punished by God’s wrath for all of our sin. (John 3:16-21, Galatians 4:1-4)

We profoundly affirm the exchange that took place on the cross: that Jesus became our sin and we received His righteousness. (2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 3:18)

We joyfully affirm that Jesus rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit on the throne of God. (Luke 24:1-53, Acts 1:6-11, 1 Corinthians 15:1-49, Colossians 3:1)

We expectantly affirm that King Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead in the resurrection and restore all creation to its original glory. (Matthew 24-25, Revelation 20:1-15)

We emphatically affirm the exclusive offer of salvation, forgiveness, and righteousness through Jesus Christ alone and our responsibility to bring this Gospel message to all peoples with both our lives and our words. (Matthew 28:16-20, Acts 4:12, Romans 10:5-17)

We humbly affirm that in the Holy Spirit’s power we have turned from our sin to the forgiveness and new life offered in the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of our King Jesus; trusting fully in the righteousness of Christ and not in our ability to believe or please God, and now live in loving obedience to Jesus as our King and Chief Shepherd. (Romans 8:1-8, Galatians 5:16-24)

We obediently affirm that in response to these truths we have proclaimed our identity with Him through baptism. (Matthew 3:13-17, Romans 6:1-4, Colossians 2:11-15)

We boldly affirm the necessity of the Church in the overarching plan of God in reaching the nations and establishing His saints; and therefore, we organize ourselves as a local expression of His Church with a clearly recognizable membership lead by a plurality of male elders and assisted by a group of deacons. (Ephesians 1:3-23, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus 1:5-2:15)

We corporately affirm our commitment in fellowship to each other by regularly gathering for worship and prayer. (Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 10:23-25)

We individually affirm the necessity of the accountability of our church by regularly participating in the discipline of the Lord’s Supper. (Acts 2:42-47, 1 Corinthians 10:14-22, 11:17-47)

We thankfully affirm that upon salvation we have been gifted by the Holy Spirit for service and participation in the mission of our church and gather with the expectation each will contribute to the life of our church with these gifts by involving ourselves in discipleship and ministry. (1 Corinthians 1:1-31, Galatians 5:13-15, 6:1-10)

We sacrificially affirm the necessity of financially supporting the ministries and needs of our church. (Acts 4:32-37, 2 Corinthians 9:1-15)

We prayerfully affirm the authority and perfection of the Holy Scriptures and seek to follow their truths and teachings in our belief and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21)

We wholeheartedly affirm the sanctity of human life; and therefore, we uphold, promote, and defend the rights of the abused, the elderly, the oppressed, the poor, the convicted, the orphaned, the widowed, and the unborn. (Psalm   68:5, Psalm 139:13-18, James 1:27)

We necessarily affirm the family as the foundation of all societies; and therefore, we defend the biblical definition of heterosexual marriage, the boundaries of marital sexuality, the equality and distinction of men and women, and the value of children raised under godly instruction and discipline. (Genesis 2:24, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Ephesians 5:22-6:4)

In all these things, we commit ourselves “to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
